Since the World Health Organization’s official pronouncement of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, life has been disrupted on a scale that most living people have never witnessed. As businesses close their doors, communities shelter in place, and already-strapped health systems buckle under the strain of the pandemic, we find ourselves at one of the most critical inflection points in modern human history.

In response to this precarious moment, StartUp Health is leaning into its core strengths. For the past ten years, we’ve been building an army for such a time as this. It is a global army of Health Transformers — the world’s most innovative, dedicated health entrepreneurs who have been committed to solving the biggest health challenges of our time. Challenges like the one we currently face.

“Our goal is to connect the dots between the solutions needed with those Health Transformers who have specific solutions ready to go that can make a big impact.” – Unity Stoakes, President & Co-founder of StartUp Health

In the spirit of transparency and rapid collaboration, we have built a new tool called the StartUp Health COVID-19 Navigator. The Navigator centralizes pandemic response solutions and resources, with the potential to bring together companies, investors and partners in order to address the many complex challenges presented by the novel coronavirus. It is a free, online, searchable tool that indexes health innovation companies in eight top-level pandemic response categories:

  • Diagnostics & Screening
  • Telemedicine
  • Remote Patient Monitoring
  • Drug Development
  • Mental Health
  • Access to Care
  • Prevention/Preventative
  • Care Coordination

Below, we’ve outlined steps for how anyone can use the COVID-19 Navigator.

Additionally, we have issued a Call for COVID-19 Innovation. We invite health entrepreneurs working on direct or indirect solutions for mitigating, managing, or treating coronavirus or future pandemics to apply to join StartUp Health’s global army of Health Transformers.

Below are instructions on how to best use the StartUp Health COVID-19 Navigator. Suggestions on how to make it better? Email us at transformer@startuphealth.com.

Select a category to filter companies by pandemic response function. Select ‘In Market’ to view solutions market-ready.

Additional filtering options exist in the upper left corner of the tool. For example, you can filter for companies offering either a Direct or Indirect Pandemic Response, or conduct a basic keyword search.

Click on a company card to expand and review its available information.

Each company’s card contains a number of fields with the most pertinent information about their COVID-19 solution at the top. Other fields include:

  • Moonshot + Value Prop: This is the company’s ultimate mission — their health moonshot — and their market differentiator.
  • Keywords: These keywords are sourced from StartUp Health IQ, our 10-year database that tracks health innovation funding and trends. The keywords represent primary functions in healthcare and are assigned to each company based on their solution.
  • Website, Story Dashboard, Company Profile: Each of the links in these fields offer additional information about the company.
  • Email: This is your means of direct contact with the CEOs and founders of the company.

Below the search tool, scroll down to view a digest of the latest news about StartUp Health companies working to solve for COVID-19.

For the past ten years, the ‘health moonshot’ has been a guiding metaphor for StartUp Health. The unprecedented collaboration that was required in order to land a person on the moon has been our roadmap for addressing the great health challenges of our time. The Apollo program involved more than 400,000 engineers and scientists, and technicians from more than 20,000 private companies and universities. And their swift collaboration was accomplished without a single laptop, app or mobile device.

“If we put a person on the Moon, I believe we can mount a coordinated, global pandemic response to save the lives of millions,” says Steven Krein, StartUp Health’s CEO, Co-founder and Managing Partner.

“Our goal is to connect the dots between the solutions needed with those Health Transformers who have specific solutions ready to go that can make a big impact,” says Unity Stoakes, StartUp Health’s President, Co-founder and Managing Partner. “We’re adding to the database every hour at this point, and it’s incredible to see the depth and breadth of specific innovation that is available. Now we need to make sure it gets to the right people and organizations who can put it to immediate use.”

We welcome your feedback. If there is information or filtering options you’d like to see that aren’t here, email us at transformer@startuphealth.com.
